How we make money
This site earns money when you buy through our links. You pay the same either way. Since that is an obvious conflict of interest, here it is in full: what we earn from, what we do not, and what we have done so the conflict does not cost you.
We are not the official website
We are an independent site and an official affiliate of Turisme de Barcelona. We are not the city council, not TMB, not any operator. When we link to the official shop it is the genuine official shop — but the recommendation is ours, not theirs.
What we earn from
| Product | Do we earn? |
|---|---|
| Barcelona Card, Hola Barcelona, Aerobus, Bus Turístic, Montserrat | Yes, commission from Turisme de Barcelona |
| Attraction tickets and tours | Yes, from the official shop or an OTA |
| Go City | No |
| T-casual, T-dia, single tickets, Airport ticket | No, TMB sells those |
| Taxis, metro, Rodalies | No |
That bottom half of the table is the important part. A good share of what we recommend pays us nothing. The T-casual turns up again and again in our comparisons as the better option, and we earn nothing from it.
This site's biases, said out loud
We earn from passes. That gives us an incentive to tell you to buy one. So that the incentive does not contaminate the numbers, the calculator is deliberately built against us:
- Museums without a verified price do not count. The Barcelona Card includes 11 museums whose individual admission the official shop does not sell. Without an exact price we leave them out of the saving, so the Barcelona Card looks worse than it deserves.
- Children's admissions do not count either. We do not have each museum's child fare, so we leave it out. That makes buying separately look cheaper — and buying separately is the alternative to buying a pass from us.
- The calculator can say "do not buy". And it does. If your trip does not amortise any pass, it says so in writing, even when that means we earn nothing from you.
The logic is simple: if we always pointed you at the most expensive pass, this site would be useless and you would not come back. An honest "not worth it" on your first trip is worth more than a forced commission.
When the cheaper option is not ours, we say so
There are cases where the product we earn from is not the best one, and they are written plainly on the relevant pages. Two examples:
- The Hola Barcelona is sold with a 5% discount in the shop we earn from, and 10% on the operator's own site. We say so on the buying page.
- Go City, which pays us nothing, is the better choice than the Barcelona Card if your trip revolves around Sagrada Família and Casa Batlló. We say that too.
Where the prices come from
Prices for the official products are pulled directly from the Turisme de Barcelona shop rather than typed by hand, so what you see is what it costs today. Third-party fares — TMB, taxis, the Bus Turístic — are checked manually, and every page states when they were last verified.
If you find an out-of-date price or a wrong figure, that is our mistake and we want to know.
