Aerobus or taxi: where the break-even sits

A taxi from the airport does not start below 21,00 €, supplements included. That is worth about 3 Aerobus tickets. With that number in mind, the choice stops being a matter of taste.

When each one wins

The Aerobus wins with one or two of you, heading central, not in a hurry. Two tickets are 15,50 € against a 21,00 € minimum that a real trip almost always exceeds.

The taxi wins with three or four of you, with large cases or a pushchair, if your accommodation is far from the stops, or if you land overnight with children. At four people the per-head difference gets small.

What a price comparison misses

The Aerobus leaves you at Plaça de Catalunya. If your hotel is ten minutes' walk away, you are done. If it is in Poblenou or Sarrià, you have another metro leg with the cases — and that last stretch is usually what tips the decision towards a taxi without ever showing up in the table.

It cuts the other way too: going back, a taxi at five in the morning has to be booked or found, whereas the Aerobus turns up exactly as it does at midday.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Barcelona airport?

The minimum fare starting at the airport is 21,00 €, supplements included. Above that the meter runs: 2,80 € flag drop and 1,35 € per kilometre on weekdays in daytime.

At how many people does a taxi beat the Aerobus?

The taxi minimum is worth about 3 Aerobus tickets. With four people and luggage the taxi usually wins, especially if your accommodation is not near a stop.

Is there an airport supplement?

Yes, 4,60 € for journeys starting or ending at the airport. It is already inside the 21,00 € minimum.

Is a taxi faster than the Aerobus?

Usually, but not by much: both use the same roads and the same traffic. The taxi advantage is the door, not the speed.
