Barcelona airport to the city centre: what to take

There are five ways to make this journey and the cheapest is rarely the one Google shows first. What decides it is not the ticket price — it is where you are going and what you will do for the rest of your trip.

The T-casual trap.

The T-casual is the ticket everyone in Barcelona uses: 13,00 € for ten journeys, about 1,30 € each. But it is not valid at the Aeroport T1 and T2 metro stations. Plenty of people buy one assuming it will get them in, and meet a closed barrier.

It does work on the Rodalies train to the airport station, which sits at T2. If you are flying from T2 and already hold a T-casual, that is comfortably your cheapest leg.

Which one suits you

Staying central (Eixample, Gòtic, Gràcia)

The Aerobus runs straight to Plaça de Catalunya with no changes and proper luggage space. You pay a few euros more than the metro and skip dragging bags through an interchange.

Heading to Sants or Passeig de Gràcia

The Rodalies train, no contest. It is direct, it is the quickest, and it takes the ordinary travel cards. The Aerobus does not stop at Sants, so you would end up on the metro anyway.

Arriving overnight

The Aerobus is the only one running 24 hours. The metro closes on weekdays and train frequencies stretch right out at either end of the day.

Travelling as three or four

Do the sums before dismissing a taxi. Four Aerobus tickets land close to the 21,00 € taxi minimum, and the taxi is door to door.

Work it out with your own numbers

If you will be moving around the city for several days, the airport leg stops being a separate decision. The calculator puts it all together:

Which ticket works out cheapest?

Official prices, updated 22 October 2026. We tell you what to buy — and when no pass is worth it.

Which museums will you actually visit?

These are free with the Barcelona Card. Only tick the ones you genuinely want to see — over-ticking is the quickest way to buy a pass that never pays for itself.

The card also covers 11 more museums that the official shop doesn’t sell on their own (Castell de Montjuïc, CCCB, Centre Martorell d’Exposicions, Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHUB)…). We leave them out, so the Barcelona Card’s real saving is a little higher than shown here.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way from Barcelona airport to the city centre?

The Rodalies train, if you are heading for Sants or Passeig de Gràcia, because it accepts the ordinary integrated travel cards. On the metro you need the 5,90 € Airport ticket, because the T-casual is not valid at the airport stations.

Can I use a T-casual to get to the airport?

Not on the metro. The T-casual (13,00 € for 10 journeys) is not valid at Aeroport T1 and T2 on the L9 Sud. It does work on the Rodalies train to the airport station.

How much is a taxi from Barcelona airport?

The minimum fare from the airport is 21,00 €, supplements included. Above that the meter runs, so a trip into the centre comes out well over the minimum.

Which terminal has a metro station?

The L9 Sud serves both T1 and T2. The Rodalies train only calls at T2; from T1 you take the free inter-terminal shuttle.

How long does it take to get into Barcelona from the airport?

Roughly 25 minutes by train, 32 by metro plus a change, and about 35 by Aerobus or taxi depending on traffic.
