Barcelona Card Family: is it worth it?

The family version of the Barcelona Card swaps the art museums for what children actually want to see: Tibidabo, the Aquarium, the Zoo and ten more, plus unlimited public transport. It is expensive, so it only pays off if you plan to do the big ones.

When it pays off

Compare one adult card with the alternative: a 72-hour Hola Barcelona for transport (25,94 €) plus separate tickets. The Family Card costs 112,00 €, so the attractions have to be worth 86,06 € per adult.

That means roughly 3 of the big ones, for example Tibidabo Amusement Park, Barcelona Aquarium, Barcelona Zoo. Three days with Tibidabo, the Aquarium and the Zoo and the card wins; a trip built around the beach and Park Güell (not included) and it loses badly.

Children's tickets cost roughly in proportion to the child card, so the same rule of thumb holds for them. Check the exact ages each attraction uses: some count children only up to 10.

Family Card or the normal Barcelona Card?

They are not the same product with a family price. The normal card (53,10 € per adult for 72 hours) gives free entry to art and history museums such as the MNAC and the Fundació Miró. The Family card gives the Zoo, Aquarium and Tibidabo instead. Pick the one whose list matches your plans, not the one with "family" in the name. More on the normal Barcelona Card.

How it works

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Barcelona Card Family?

For 72 hours, 112,00 € per adult and 72,00 € per child aged 4 to 12. It is also sold for 96 and 120 hours. Under-4s go free.

What does the Barcelona Card Family include?

Unlimited public transport including the airport metro, and free entry to 13 family attractions: Tibidabo, the Aquarium, the Zoo, CosmoCaixa, Poble Espanyol, Las Golondrinas, the Columbus Monument and more.

Is the Barcelona Card Family worth it?

For an adult it pays off if you visit about 3 of the big attractions (Tibidabo Amusement Park, Barcelona Aquarium, Barcelona Zoo) in three days. Fewer than that, and transport plus separate tickets is cheaper.

What is the difference with the normal Barcelona Card?

The normal card gives free entry to art and history museums and costs 53,10 € per adult for 72 hours. The Family card swaps those for children's attractions such as the Zoo, Aquarium and Tibidabo, and costs more.
