Barcelona metro hours: opening and closing times

The metro opens at 5am Monday to Saturday. It closes at midnight Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, at 2am on Friday, and on Saturday it runs all night. If you are planning a late night out, Friday and Saturday are the nights when the metro will still get you back.

Weekly timetable

Monday to Thursday05:00 to midnight
Friday, and nights before public holidays05:00 to 02:00
SaturdayFrom 05:00, all night through to Sunday
SundayUntil midnight

Official TMB hours. They apply to every TMB metro line: L1 to L5, L9, L10 and L11.

How the closing time works

The closing time is not when the last train reaches your station. It is when the last train leaves each end of the line. If you are in the centre, that train still has a way to go before it reaches you; near the end of a line, you have less margin. If in doubt, do not cut it fine.

A night before a public holiday runs like a Friday, until 2am. A public holiday that falls on a weekday runs like a normal weekday, until midnight.

Festival nights

A few nights a year the metro runs all night: Sant Joan (23–24 June), the eve of La Mercè (23–24 September) and New Year's Eve. On Christmas Eve it does the opposite and closes at 11pm.

When the metro is closed

At night, when the metro has stopped, the NitBus night buses cover the city. For a specific journey, the TMB app gives you the best route at any hour.

Lines, stations and the official map are on the Barcelona metro map page, and what each ticket costs is in Barcelona metro tickets and prices.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the Barcelona metro open?

At 5am, Monday to Saturday. On Sunday it does not need to open: it has been running non-stop since Saturday morning.

What time does the Barcelona metro close?

At midnight Monday to Thursday and on Sunday. On Friday, and on the night before a public holiday, it closes at 2am. On Saturday it does not close at all and runs through the night into Sunday.

Does the metro run all night on Saturday?

Yes. It starts at 5am on Saturday and runs without a break until midnight on Sunday.

Does it run all night at New Year and other festivals?

Yes. There is a service all night on 23–24 June (Sant Joan), 23–24 September (the eve of La Mercè) and New Year's Eve. Christmas Eve is the exception the other way: the metro closes early, at 11pm.

Is the closing time when the last train reaches my station?

No. It is when the last train leaves each end of the line, so at a station in the centre it comes through a little later.
