Barcelona metro tickets: prices, and which one to buy
Barcelona sells around a dozen public transport tickets. For a visitor, four are worth comparing, plus the Hola Barcelona pass. Picking the wrong one costs you about the price of a lunch over a week. Here they are, with the real price per journey.
Zone 1 fares

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single ticket | 2,90 € | 1 | 2,90 € | No |
| T-casual | 13,00 € | 10 | 1,30 € | No |
| T-dia | 12,00 € | unlimited, 1 day | — | Yes |
| T-familiar (shareable) | 11,50 € | 8 | 1,44 € | No |
| Airport ticket | 5,90 € | 1 | 5,90 € | Yes, metro only |
TMB fares in force since 15 January 2026. One journey lets you change between metro, bus, tram and local trains within 75 minutes. Under-4s travel free.
Which one fits your trip
T-casual for almost everyone. 10 journeys cover three or four days of normal sightseeing, and at 1,30 € a journey nothing beats it. It is personal, so each traveller needs their own.
T-familiar if you are two or more. Slightly dearer per journey than the T-casual, but several people can use the same card: you validate it once per person. 8 journeys, valid for 30 days.
T-dia only for a very busy day. It pays off at about 10 journeys in the same day. That is a lot of metro rides; most sightseeing days are four or five.
The single ticket (2,90 €) is here for completeness: it costs more than twice as much per journey.
Staying a month or more? The T-usual (22,80 €) gives unlimited travel for 30 days, airport included, but it is personal and has to be loaded onto a personalised T-mobilitat card or the TMB app.
The airport is the trap.
The T-casual is not valid at the Aeroport T1 and T2 metro stations. If you arrive and leave by metro, add two Airport tickets (5,90 € each): a T-casual plus both airport journeys comes to 24,80 €, against 25,94 € for a 72-hour Hola Barcelona that includes them. Practically a draw, and the pass is unlimited.
The tourist pass: Hola Barcelona
The Hola Barcelona Travel Card is the unlimited pass aimed at visitors: metro, bus, tram and local trains in zone 1, including the metro to the airport. Online prices:
| Duration | Price | Per day | Beats the T-casual from |
|---|---|---|---|
| 48 hours (2 days) | 17,76 € | 8,88 € | 14 journeys |
| 72 hours (3 days) | 25,94 € | 8,65 € | 20 journeys |
| 96 hours (4 days) | 33,82 € | 8,46 € | 27 journeys |
| 120 hours (5 days) | 41,42 € | 8,28 € | 32 journeys |
On transport alone it only wins if you travel a lot. Its real advantage is the airport metro, which the T-casual does not cover. The full verdict is in Hola Barcelona vs T-casual.

The card comes before the ticket
Barcelona is moving its tickets onto T-mobilitat, a contactless card you load journeys onto. For a short stay the anonymous cardboard card from any metro machine is enough, but it costs 1,00 € on top. So your first T-casual is really 14,00 €, a number you will not see in any fare table.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a metro ticket in Barcelona?
A single journey in zone 1 costs 2,90 €. Hardly anyone should buy one: the T-casual gives you 10 journeys for 13,00 €, which is 1,30 € a journey.
Which metro ticket is best for tourists in Barcelona?
For most visitors, the T-casual. The T-dia only pays off with 10 or more journeys in a single day. Two or more people travelling together should look at the shareable T-familiar, and if you are taking the metro to and from the airport, the Hola Barcelona Travel Card.
Can I use a metro ticket to get to Barcelona Airport?
Not every one. The T-casual and single ticket are not valid at the Aeroport T1 and T2 stations on line L9 Sud. You need the 5,90 € Airport ticket, or a pass that covers those stations: the T-dia, the T-usual or the Hola Barcelona.
Which zone do I need?
Zone 1. It covers the whole city and the airport. Higher zones only matter for trips out of the metropolitan area, such as Montserrat or Sitges.
Can two people share a T-casual?
No, the T-casual is personal. The T-familiar can be shared: 8 journeys that several people can use, valid for 30 days.
Is there a Barcelona metro pass for 3 days?
Yes: the Hola Barcelona Travel Card for 72 hours costs 25,94 €, with unlimited public transport including the metro to and from the airport.
